Whenever I think about Jeju island, I think about Udo island first.

I like Udo island more than Jeju island.

To go to the Udo island, you have to go the Jeju island first.

The island was named "Udo" or "Cow Island" as its contours look like a cow lying down on the ground. There are 8 scenic wonders of Udo: day and night(Judan-myeongwol and Yahang-eobeom), sky and earth (Cheonjin-gwansan and Jidu-cheongsa), front and back (Jeonpo-mangdo and Huhae-seokbyeok), and east and west (Dongan-gyeonggul and Seobin-baeksa)

The movie "In October" and "The mermaid" were shot at Cow Island, capitalizing on its picturesque scene of a fishing village and a lush, peaceful grassy field. The white sand beach facing the indigo and turquoise sea of Jeju is very impressive.

It takes about 10 minutes by ferry from Jeju Island to the islet of Udo, and ferries run every hour from Seongsan Port to the northeast of Seongsan Ilchulbong. The ferry can also carry vehicles.

The core of any Udo tour is the islet’s two beautiful beaches. Of those, Sanhosa Beach, where the movie was filmed, is known for its wide swath of white sand, made of hardened red algae that has been pulverized.

Hagosoodong Beach is famous for the beautiful color of the ocean and its cobalt blue waves covering the sand will tempt you to soak your feet in the water.

You also won’t want to miss Udobong (Udo Peak) and the Udo Lighthouse. Two courses lead to Udobong - the Cheonjindong trail is easy with a gentle slope, whereas the Gummullae course is steeper, yet with spectacular views.

The lighthouse on Udo Peak serves as an excellent background for memorable pictures. Recently, the Udo Olle trail opened to the public so that you can get a real taste of Udo life as you walk the islet.

Next time I will tell you what to do and what to eat at UDO Island.

    Enjoy Korea~
